Canada Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTC)
Federal Skilled Trades Program applications are assessed based on an applicant's ability to become economically established upon immigration to Canada.NOTE: On January 2, 2021, Citizenship and Immigration Canada opened the new Federal Skilled Trades Program.Please fill out a
free online assessment today to determine if you qualify.The new Federal Skilled Trades Program (FTSC) will allow individuals with job offers or appropriate certification to work in certain occupations to obtain Canadian Permanent Residency in any Canadian Province or Territory other than Quebec.In order to qualify for a Canada Immigration (Permanent Resident) Visa, Canadian Federal Skilled Trades (Professional) applicants must fulfill the following minimum requirements:
- Have offers of employment from up to two employers in Canada of at least one year duration OR a Certificate of Qualification from a provincial or territorial body;
- Provide proof of basic language proficiency from a designated language testing organization, demonstrating that the applicant meets the minimum threshold set by the Minister (Canadian Level Benchmark (CLB) 5 for speaking and listening, 4 for reading and writing);
- Have obtained twenty-four months of qualified work experience in the skilled trade in the last five years; and
- Be able to demonstrate the skills and experience and that they have performed the essential duties of the occupation.
The program will accept a maximum of 3000 total applications in its first year in order to ensure speedy processing times.
Within the overall 3000 application limit, CIC will be accepting up to 100 applications for each of the skilled trade occupations set out in the following group (
FSTC Group A):• 7202 Contractors and supervisors, electrical trades and telecommunications occupations• 7204 Contractors and supervisors, carpentry trades• 7205 Contractors and supervisors, other construction trades, installers, repairers and servicers• 7271 Carpenters• 7301 Contractors and supervisors, mechanic trades• 7302 Contractors and supervisors, heavy equipment operator crews• 8211 Supervisors, logging and forestry• 8221 Supervisors, mining and quarrying• 8222 Contractors and supervisors, oil and gas drilling services• 8241 Logging machinery operators• 8252 Agricultural service contractors, farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers• 9211 Supervisors, mineral and metal processing• 9212 Supervisors, petroleum, gas and chemical processing and utilities• 9214 Supervisors, plastic and rubber products manufacturing• 9231 Central control and process operators, mineral and metal processing• 9241 Power engineers and power systems operators• 9243 Water and waste treatment plant operators
Within the same overall 3000 application limit, CIC will be accepting an unlimited number of applications from each of the skilled trade occupations set out in the following group (
