Once entry has been granted, visitors may not normally change their status. For example, a person admitted as a tourist may not generally take a job or become a student or permanent resident. Similarly, temporary workers cannot change jobs and some international students cannot change their approved type of institution without first applying to have authorization amended. Extensions to visitor status may be applied for in various ways. 

Consult the Blue Pages of your phone book for immigration sources in your community. All visitors who stay in Canada after their authorized period of stay has expired are in violation of the Act and are subject to removal.
